About Energy Rated Homes of Iowa

In 1990, the Iowa General Assembly required the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to establish a statewide building energy efficiency rating system. Steering and Technical Advisory Committees formed by the DNR adopted a home energy rating system based one developed by Energy Rated Homes of America (ERHA). Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA) has been contracted to implement the Iowa home energy rating system and promote its use throughout the state. MICA operates the rating system under the name of Energy Rated Homes of Iowa (ERHI), reflecting the pattern used in the 15 other states operating home energy rating systems using the ERHA model.
